Porto Protocol calls on wine industry to take lead on climate change
Fladgate Partnership’s CEO Adrian Bridge used the Climate Change Leadership Porto Climate Change Leadership Summit 2018 in Porto, Portugal on 6 July 2018 to announce the launch of the Porto Protocol, a far reaching initiative designed to encourage and enable the wine trade to step up to the pressing challenge of global warming.
This wine industry initiative is more than just a call to action. It is a binding commitment by its signatories, from whatever area, to make a greater contribution to mitigating climate change.
More than just a commitment to take concrete action, the Porto Protocol will be a tool to engage the entire wine industry, encouraging it to work in concert towards our common goal: the minimization of the impacts of the Climate Change.
Wine is not only an agricultural product but a cultural one, part of the lifestyle and heritage of the regions where it is produced.
It is a ‘people business’, a chain of close human relationships which create unique opportunities to work in concert to solve our common problems. Above all, it is a multigenerational activity, often involving family ownership, where attitudes are conditioned by the wish to create a sustainable future for generations to come.
